Each year the Ladder Association runs a photo competition to find the biggest Idiots on Ladders. The competition is run in conjunction with the Association's Ladder Exchange campaign where users are encouraged to replace broken or unsafe ladders for news ones at a discounted price.
Commenting on the campaign, Gary Chudleigh, Ladder Association Marketing and Communications Officer explained that "buyers and users of ladders, and the people who supervise their use, are encouraged to think about height safety in general and ladder safety in particular over the period of the campaign. With falls from height still one of the biggest cause of deaths and injuries at the workplace, anything that helps to keep people safe is a good thing."
Deadly Statistics
Unfortunately the winner of the Idiots on Ladders competition appears to be unaware of the campaign and is a perfect example of why people need to be trained on how to use a ladder safely. We may all laugh at the stupidity of people like this, but it is important to remember that over a third of fall from height accidents involve ladders and stepladders.
Anyone who uses a ladder must have had proper training and understand how to use the ladder safely. Companies have a duty to make sure those using the equipment are competent to do so and that the ladder is suitable for the task.
We offer a range of Ladder Safety products designed to help you work safely off ladders, so if you are planning to use a ladder or stepladder and need to discuss safe use, please call us on 01767 691812 or email: [email protected]
