The Health and Safety Executive is continuing its nationwide site inspection campaign having already carried out over 2,000 this year nationwide.
This second phase will focus on, among other things, work at height and structural safety.
Coinciding with the publication of sector-specific plans, the HSE is hoping to make clear how it intends to channel its resources to properly tackle health and safety issues in each of the 19 different types of workplace.
Construction remains a particular area of focus for the HSE, after 43 workers were killed in 2015/16 and over 65,000 were injured. More than 400 more died as a result of construction-related ill health.
Peter Baker, HSE's chief inspector of construction, said:
"My message to smaller businesses is don't wait for an accident or a visit from an HSE inspector - learn from the success of others and act now."
