Safe work in lofts

Access to domestic lofts is required for a variety of reasons such as for loft conversion, loft insulation,  installation of central heating or solar PV panels.  If a loft isn't permanently boarded many people simply work by walking along the joists but this poses a risk of serious accidents.

The HSE recommends that some form of temporary boarding is used when working in lofts, “a good example is concertina style load bearing safety decking that can be passed up through the loft opening and then can be expanded out when in the loft to extend over the joists.”   Our Joist Safety Matting is exactly that.

Joist Safety Matting has been designed specifically to provide a safe and secure platform to work from and overcomes the age old problems of balancing on joists or putting your foot through the ceiling.   The system is lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and simply rolls out to cover the gaps between joists.   Made with hollow aluminium slats which are rolled up into a tight bundle when not in use, the system also features heavy duty rubber on the underside of the slats to prevent accidental electric shock and anti-slip strips fitted to the top side for enhanced safety.
